Cyber Security Roundtable
Invite-Only
Monday, 15 September | 14:30 - 17:00
Location: Details provided with the invitation
Cyber risks in shipping have not only been steadily increasing, but also continuously evolving. There have also been significant changes in cyber regulation recently.
Among the 1,200 vessel-related cyber security cases that CyberOwl handled in the last 12 months, a new tactic was uncovered of threat actors exploiting vulnerabilities in onboard vessel systems as a means of moving laterally onto office systems ashore; a reverse of the more typical tactics moving from shore to ship. On regulation, in the last 6 months alone, the IACS UR E26 rules came into effect, the IMO released revised guidelines for maritime cyber risk management (MSC-FAL.1/Circ.3/Rev.3) and the US Coast Guard’s rule on Cybersecurity in Marine Transportation Systems went into effect.
Keeping on top of these evolving risks and regulatory requirements is challenging. Yet, access to formal, trusted communities for knowledge sharing is limited, particularly for shipowners and operators with UK presence.
To address this gap, the UK Department for Transport, London International Shipping Week and CyberOwl are hosting an invite-only roundtable to:
- Share knowledge of the latest cyber risks on vessel systems
- Discuss the challenges that shipping operators are struggling to address as individual organisations
- Understand UK Government activity to support the maritime sector domestically and internationally
- Explore next-steps for facilitating information sharing between industry and government, to help address gaps that would support commercial shipping.
Sensitive information will be shared at this event at TLP:AMBER and TLP:RED.
An informal reception, sponsored by CyberOwl, will follow the roundtable.
